Several incidents have occurred in the last few years, as well as in last few months; where Indian nationals have drowned, while attempting to swim in lakes and rivers in Germany.

It may kindly be noted that such activities should not be undertaken, except by expert swimmers who are familiar with the currents, depth and other threat parameters of water bodies in Germany.

It is further advised that due precautions may be taken, such as wearing life jackets and all advisories of local governments on the matter should be strictly followed.

MISCELLANEOUS CONSULAR SERVICES

All the applications for Miscellaneous Consular Services such as Power of Attorneys, Attestations, Various Certificates based on Consular records, Life Certificate, Transportation of Mortal remains & Ashes etc. are being accepted through the SEWA Portal https://indianconsularservices.mea.gov.in/consularServices/ in the Consulate. The requisite documentation and procedure can be checked under MISC CONSULAR SERVICES on our website.

OVERSEAS CITIZEN OF INDIA (OCI) CARD

The eOCI card has been introduced in place of the physical OCI card. Applicants will not be issued a physical OCI card and may download their eOCI through the OCI Portal https://www.ociservices.gov.in/onlineOCI/ .

Indian nationals who acquired the citizenship of another country must surrender all the Indian Identity documents to the concerned issuing authority before applying for OCI Card.

The OCI Cardholders should update their new passport details within 03 months of issue of passport each time against the OCI Portal https://www.ociservices.gov.in/onlineOCI/ , and if apply beyond 03 months, penalty of €26.00 is levied. However, the Government has waived this penalty until 31 December 2026.

OCI cardholders are not required to appear in person at the Consulate to update their new passport details. The process is entirely online. Applicants will receive an automated email upon final acknowledgement and may also check the status of their final acknowledgement through the OCI Portal https://www.ociservices.gov.in/onlineOCI/ .

There shall be no restrictions on OCI cardholders travelling to/from India during the period between date of submission of application for updating the details of new passport and the final acknowledgment of the application in the online system.

The facility for converting PIO cards to OCI cards has been discontinued w.e.f. 31 December 2025. Such PIO cardholders may apply for a fresh OCI card.
