This category of visa Ayush Visa (AY-1) will be applicable to foreign nationals whose sole purpose is to seek treatment through Ayush systems / Indian systems of medicine like therapeutic care and wellness in a Hospital / Wellness Centre accredited and registered with any Government authority(ies) concerned or NABH / NCH / NCISM accredited hospitals providing Ayush services in India.

Ayush visa for the purpose of medical treatment is granted for up to one year with maximum of three entries.

If Ayush visa is issued for a period of 6 months or less, no registration with FRRO/FRO would be required.

Minor children accompanying a parent, who intends to come for medical treatment on a Ayush visa may be given Entry visa co-terminus with the Ayush visa of the principal visa holder.

Procedure;

  • Print application, paste photo at specified place and attach requisite document (given below).
  • Schedule an appointment online at https://cgihamburg.gov.in/get-appointment.
  • Submit the complete application in the Consulate on scheduled appointment.
  • Normal processing time is 03-05 working days.

  • Once the online status of the application shows that Visa “Printed”, the passport may be collected from the Consulate between 1600 hrs to 1700 hrs on any working day. Requisite Documents;

  • Printed copy of duly filled online paper visa application form at https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/index.html (duly signed and with pasted photograph at appropriate place). Visa application for minor child to be signed by both parents.
  • Original Passport (valid for more than 6 months with at least two blank pages) with a self-attested photocopy.
  • Two photographs (size; 51mm x 51mm with white background). Photo with wrong specifications will not be accepted. Photo uploaded in the online application and pasted on the hard copy of the application should be the same.
  • Self-attested photocopy of the address proof (City Registration/Meldebescheinigung)
  • Self-attested photocopy of the Residence permit of Germany and Additional Form (applicable on other than German nationals).
  • All applicants for Ayush visa are required to generate the invitation letter from this linkwhich is mandatory to be submitted along with the visa application.
  • Letter from the hospital/ Institution/ Wellness Centre accredited and registered with any Government of India authority(ies) or NABH/ NCH/ NCISM accredited hospitals providing Ayush services duly stamped and signed, confirming the applicants admission for medical treatment through Ayush system in India with clearly mentioning the period of treatment.
  • Letter from the hospital/doctor in Germany attesting the need for treatment in India.
  • Additional documents for Ayush Visa attendants;
  • Recommendation letter from the hospital/institution in India for medical treatment. All applicants for Ayush attendant visa are required to generate the invitation letter from this link which is mandatory to be submitted along with the visa application.
  • Passport copy of the principal Ayush visa applicant/holder.
  • Self-attested photocopies of last 03 months Bank statement with sufficient balance to cover the cost of stay in India.
  • Applicable Fee (please checks under bank details and fee structure). Please attach the proof of payment with the application, if made through bank transfer.
  • One A5 size pre-paid self-addressed envelope with postage stamps of Euro 4.45 (for registered post/Einschreiben) pasted on it to send your passport upon completion of application process (Optional- if the applicant wishes to receive the passport back by Post).
  • Note: If any additional documents are required based on the application, the applicant have to provide the same.

Advisory;

  • A valid passport with more than 06 months validity and valid visa is required for traveling to India (except those exempted under bilateral agreements).
  • Applicant has to submit the application in-person and give their biometrics at the time of submission of their applications. Applicants below the age of 12 years & above the age of 70 years are exempted from biometrics.

Business Visa is granted to a foreigner for the following purposes:

  • Establish an industrial/business venture or to explore possibilities to set up an industrial / business venture, other than Proprietorship Firms and Partnership Firms, in India.
  • Purchase / sell industrial products or commercial products or consumer durables.
  • Technical meetings / discussions, attending Board meetings or general meetings for providing business services support.
  • Recruitment of manpower.
  • Foreign nationals who are partners in the business and / or functioning as Directors of the company.
  • Consultations regarding exhibitions or for participation in exhibitions, trade fairs, business fairs, etc.
  • Transact business with suppliers / potential suppliers at locations in India, to evaluate or monitor quality, give specifications, place orders, negotiate further supplies etc., relating to goods or services procured from India.
  • Foreign experts / specialists on a visit of short duration in connection with an ongoing project with the objective of monitoring the progress of the work, conducting meetings with Indian customers and / or to provide technical guidance.
  • Pre-sales or post-sales activity not amounting to actual execution of any contract or project.
  • Foreign trainees of multinational companies / corporate houses coming for in-house training in the regional hubs of the concerned company located in India.
  • Foreign nationals coming as tour conductors and travel agents and / or conducting business tours of foreigners or business relating to it, etc.
  • Foreign academicians / experts coming under GIAN (Global Initiative for Academic Networks).
  • Crew members of scheduled / non-scheduled flights operated by scheduled airlines, non-scheduled and chartered flights operated by non-scheduled airlines and special flights.
  • Foreign nationals intending to visit India to participate in cultural events / activities with remuneration.
  • Foreign nationals who are engaged in commercial sports events in India on contract (including coaches) like Indian Premier League, Indian Soccer League and Indian Badminton League etc.
  • Visiting faculty for teaching in purely private institutes.
  • Foreign nationals deputed for providing technical support/services, transfer of know-how/services for which the Indian company pays fees/royalty to the foreign company.

  • Duly filled and signed APPENDIX-V by the Indian Company.
  • Additional documents (as applicable):
  • In case of self-employed: Company's registration proof is required.
  • In case Indian business owner: Memorandum/shareholding proof in a company is required.
  • In case Chinese passport holder: Invitation letter should be stamped by the Indian Chamber of Commerce. Some additional forms are also required to be filled (contact on visa.hamburg@mea.gov.in for additional forms). Chinese passport holders are also advised to apply well in advance at least 02 month as the visa process takes time.
  • Additional documents for Dependents:
  • In case of children: Copy of Birth Certificate of the applicant, passport copies of the parents, Consent letter signed by both parents or custody document of local court if applicable.
  • In case of spouse: Copy of the Marriage Certificate and spouse passport copy.
  • Additional Documents for Participation in Sport Events:
  • Invitation Letter from an Indian sports body on its letterhead specifying the visit details and passport information of the applicant (stamped and signed).

Conference Visa is granted to foreigners whose sole objective of visiting India is to attend a conference / seminar or workshop being held in India.

A foreign national who is already in India on long term visas like Business/ Employment / Student or Tourist visa and who has been invited to attend the conference/ seminar/ workshop in the capacity of a speaker/ delegate, he/ she should mandatorily seek prior permission from the concerned FRRO/FRO concerned for attending the event.

Note:- Conference visa may be granted for international conferences held to discuss a particular subject or for a seminar or workshop on a specific subject. For Business meetings, to discuss business matters of a particular company/ organization and Board meetings, a foreigner may obtain Business Visa.

An Employment Visa may be granted to a foreigner subject to fulfillment of the following condition:

  • The applicant is a highly skilled and / or qualified professional, who is being engaged or appointed by a company / organization / industry / undertaking in India on contract or employment basis.
  • Who wish to voluntary work with an NGO/Charitable Trust in India.
  • Foreign nationals coming to India as consultant on contract for whom the Indian company pays a fixed remuneration (this may not be in the form of a monthly salary).
  • Foreign artistes engaged to conduct regular performances for the duration of the employment contract given by Hotels, Clubs, other organizations.
  • Foreign nationals who are coming to India to take up employment as coaches of national / state level teams or reputed sports clubs.
  • Foreign sportsmen who are given contract for a specified period by the Indian Clubs/organizations [However, this will not include foreign nationals who are engaged in commercial sports events in India on contract (including coaches) like Indian Premier League, Indian Soccer League, Indian Badminton League etc. with remuneration for whom the appropriate visa would be Business visa]. [Note : Foreign sportsmen can play only for the particular Club / organization for which Employment Visa has been granted].
  • Self-employed foreign nationals coming to India for providing engineering, medical, accounting, legal or such other highly skilled services in their capacity as independent consultants provided the provision of such services by foreign nationals is permitted under law; [Note: Such foreign nationals can work only for the particular company/ organization for which Employment Visa has been granted].
  • Foreign language teachers / interpreters.
  • Foreign specialist Chefs.
  • Foreign engineers / technicians coming to India for installation and commissioning of equipment / machines / tools in terms of the contract for supply of such equipment / machines / tools.
  • Foreign nationals deputed for providing technical support / services, transfer of know-how/services for which the Indian company pays fees/royalty to the foreign company.
  • Foreign journalists, who intend to travel to India to work in Indian media organizations.
  • Employees / Managers coming to India for non-journalistic activities within media organizations.

  • Original copy of Employment Contract between Indian Employer and applicant. Contract is to be signed by both parties on each page. Salary/ remuneration paid in India and in Indian Currency only (more than INR.16.25 lacs per annum)
  • Letter from his previous German company if applicable.
  • There shall be a separate letter by the Indian employer, listing all payments made to the employee outside India by parent/ subsidiary/sister entity or otherwise, including social security, pension and any other contributions in Germany or elsewhere to the nearest approximate value in original currency as well as Indian Rupees. The employer shall state in this letter that all such income shall be disclosed in the income tax return in India for the employee.
  • Duly filled and signed APPENDIX-V by the Indian Employer. 
  • An undertaking from the Indian Employer that the requisite expertise are not available in India.
  • Certificate of Incorporation of the Indian company/employer.
  • For intra company transferees;
  • Proof of educational qualifications.
  • a photocopy of the Employment Contract with German employer (signed on each page).
  • Invitation letter from an Indian company contains the annual remunerations and perquisite to be paid to the applicant, detailing payments outside India, including social security and pension, and confirming income disclosure in Indian tax returns.
  • Duly filled and signed APPENDIX-V by the Indian Employer. 
  • An undertaking from the Indian Employer that the requisite expertise is not available in India.
  • Certificate of Incorporation of the Indian company/employer.
  • For employment in NGOs;
  • Copy of the contract Invitation letter from an Indian NGO/Society/Trust etc. on its latter-head containing on its full details funding source, activities, key persons, and address along with the details of the applicant, Remuneration to be paid to the applicant and nature of duties to be assigned to the applicant.
  • Supporting letter from the sending organization/Institution in Germany (if applicable).
  • Registration Certificate of the Indian NGO/Society/Trust etc. issued by the concerned government authority.
  • Copy of valid FCRA certificate of the Indian NGO.
  • Duly filled and signed APPENDIX-V by the Indian Employer. 
  • Any additional documents as required by the Embassy/Consulate concerned on case to case basis.

Film Visa may be issued to cast and crew members of international productions and official coproductions shooting a Feature Film, TV / Web commercial show / series and TV / Web Reality show / series. The permission for shooting these categories of production is granted by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MoI&B), Government of India. Medical visa is applicable to foreign nationals whose sole purpose is to seek medical treatment in established / recognized / specialized hospitals / treatment centres in India.

Medical visa for the purpose of medical treatment is granted for up to one year with maximum of three entries.

Student visa is applicable to bonafide students to pursue on-campus, full time (structured) courses at educational institutions / university or technological institute, take part in an academic exchange program duly recognized by statutory regulatory body and have acquired statutory authorization to conduct the course(s) complying with GST regulations for regular studies at recognized institutions in India and to persons going for studying Yoga, Vedic Culture, Indian systems of dance / music / Buddhist studies, etc., professors or scholars intending to conduct research work in India and applicants intending to pursue internship in an Indian Company / Educational Institution / NGO, Foreign Missions / Posts and foreign government organizations in India.

Student visa is valid for the period of study up to a maximum period of five years.

In case the internship is with a Company, the internee should draw a minimum remuneration of INR 3,60,000 per annum. There will be no minimum salary limit in the case of internship in educational institutions and NGOs. Earnings from internship with Indian Companies / Educational Institutions / NGOs will be subject to the Indian Income Tax regulations. Under no circumstances, the intern will be allowed to take up employment in India immediately after completion of the internship programme.

Grant of Student Visa to the members of Botanical, Scientific, Anthropological etc., expedition would be subject to approval of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The applicants are advised to apply at least four months in advance.

Grant of Intern visa for those intending to pursue internship in NGOs is takes time. Applicant is advised to apply for the visa well in advance atleast 02 bofore 02 months of desired visit

Procedure;

  • Once the online status of the application shows that Visa “Printed”, the passport may be collected from the Consulate between 1600 hrs to 1700 hrs on any working day.   • For studies in Yoga, Vedic culture and Indian systems of Music and Dance and Buddhist studies;

  • Registration Certificate of the concerned Indian Institution.
  • Proof of sufficient funds for expenses during stay in India – last 03 months bank statement.
  • For Theological studies and for Missionary students;
  • Letter of admission from a recognized Indian educational institution with duration of the course.
  • A letter of financial support / bank statement from parent / guardian.
  • No objection letter from parents along with the passport copies of parents and Birth Certificate of the applicant to study abroad for applicants below 18 years.
  • If the child is minor and the education if for one year or more, the application must be supported by a contract for boarding facility with authentic school in India or the proof of legal custodian/guardian in India.
  • For Research Work;
  • Original Invitation Letter from the Indian institution.
  • Duly filled APPENDIX XVll(A) with the stamp and seal of the inviting institute in India.
  • In cases which involve research on subjects related to the foreigner’s own country, the research scholar will be required to furnish a brief synopsis of the research proposal in about 150 words and giving full justification (including the benefit he / she would get) for doing the research in India.
  • For those coming for internship in India (including those coming under French VIE programme);
  • A copy of the Internship Contract including the remuneration.
  • Invitation letter from the Indian Institution/organization.
  • In case internship in a medical Institute, clearance form National Medical Commission is required.
  • For dependents of those coming under S-1 and S-3 and S-5 visas;
  • In case of children: Copy of Birth Certificate of the applicant, passport copies of the parents, Consent letter signed by both parents or custody document of local court if applicable.
  • In case of spouse: Copy of the Marriage Certificate and spouse passport copy.

A tourist visa is issued to foreign nationals whose primary purpose for visiting India is leisure, sightseeing, visiting friends or family, participating in a short-term yoga program (not exceeding six months and not accompanied by a qualifying certificate or diploma), receiving short-term medical treatment (including therapies under Indian systems of medicine), enrolling in brief courses in local languages, music, dance, arts and crafts, cooking, medicine, etc., which should not be formal or structured programs (lasting no longer than six months and not resulting in a qualifying certificate or diploma), and engaging in short-term voluntary work (for a maximum duration of one month, without any form of monetary compensation or consideration). No other purposes or activities are permitted.

Additionally, tourist visas are issued for mountaineering expeditions.

Journalists planning to visit India for tourism are recommended to apply for a Journalist visa.

The standard processing time for a tourist visa application is between three to five working days.

Foreign nationals can avail the tourist visa service via the e-Visa platform at https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html , obtain a Regular/Paper visa from Indian Embassies or Consulates https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/index.html , or utilize the visa-on-arrival option at Indian immigration in accordance with bilateral visa agreements.

PROCEDURE

For tourism purposes (T-1)

  • Original Passport. Please ensure that the passport is valid for more than 6 months on the date of travel.
  • One self-attested photocopy of the passport. If the applicant possesses more than one passport of one or different countries, he/she must provide details in the online application form and attach self-attested photocopies of all relevant passports.
  • One self-attested photocopy of proof of address {National ID Card (Personalausweis)/City Registration (Meldebescheinigung)}.
  • One self-attested photocopy of the Residence Permit for Germany and an ADDITIONAL FORM (required for applicants who are not German nationals).
  • One self-attested photocopy of the Surrender Certificate for passport/Renunciation of Indian Citizenship (applicable to former Indian nationals).
  • Additional documents for minors: A photocopy of the applicant's Birth Certificate, self-attested passport copies of both parents, and a Consent letter signed by both parents or custody documents from the court if one parent has sole custody of the minor (as applicable).

For Mountaineering Expeditions (T-2).

  • Original Passport. Please ensure that the passport is valid for more than 6 months on the date of travel.

  • Clearance/approval issued by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation. The applicant is required to submit their application for clearance/approval to the Indian Mountaineering Foundation a minimum of four months prior to the intended mountaineering/trekking activity.
  • Self-attested photocopies of the last 3 months' bank statements demonstrating sufficient funds to cover the duration of stay in India.
  • Applicable fee: The applicant must pay a fee of Euro 95.00 per application in cash at the counter of Consulate upon submission of the application.
  • A pre-paid self-addressed envelope in A5 size, affixed with postage stamps totaling Euro 4.45 (for registered mail/Einschreiben), is required to return the passport upon the completion of the application process (Optional - should the applicant prefer to receive the passport via post).

ADVISORY

A Transit visa granted for travel through India is valid for entry within 15 days of date of issue for a maximum stay of 3 days. For a stay in India beyond 3 days, an appropriate visa should be obtained.

A foreign national (other than a Pakistani national) on Transit visa will be allowed to avail facilities provided under Tourist Visa. However, if the foreigner intends to perform some work or business in India, irrespective of the duration of his / her proposed stay, he / she should obtain a visa of the appropriate category.

A person who desires to make two entries into India in transit in the course of the same journey can be granted a transit visa valid for two entries and for stay in transit for a period not exceeding 3 days for each journey.

A Transit visa is not required by a foreigner passing through, in direct transit by air, and travelling onward through India, provided he / she does not leave the specified jurisdiction of the airport.

A Transit visa is not required by a foreigner who does not leave the ship while it halts at an Indian port.
