Citizenship Renunciation for an adult applicant

To complete your application for renunciation of Indian citizenship, please follow these steps:

Book an appointment: Visit the official website of the Indian Consulate in Hamburg at https://cgihamburg.gov.in/get-appointment and book an appointment for renunciation services.

Gather the required documents:

  1. Your original Indian passport
  2. Self-attested copies of your current and previous Indian passports (front and last pages)

NOTE: If the last Indian passport is not available with the applicant, they should obtain a letter from the concerned German authorities to whom they had submitted their passport, stating the location of the passport. This letter should be obtained before submitting the application at the Consulate.

  1. Meldebescheinigung (Proof of Address in Germany) - self-attested copy /Aufenthaltstitel (Residence Permit) - self-attested copy
  2. Einbürgerungszusicherung/Einbuergerungsurkunde - self-attested copy
  3. Self-attested copy of the Indian passport of the person vouching for the correctness of your details

Instructions for Voucher:

On the second page of the application form, obtain the signature of the person vouching for the correctness of your details.

The person vouching for you must be an Indian citizen.

Make sure the signature matches the signature on their Indian passport.

The person should provide their full local address.

  1. Cash payment of €82.00 (€80.00 + €2.00) or Giro/Debit card for payment at the Consulate Counter
  1. Prepare a prepaid self-addressed envelope: If you wish to receive your cancelled Indian passport or the renunciation certificate by Registered Post, provide a prepaid self-addressed envelope (Size A4) with postage stamps of €4.25 affixed on it.

Attend your appointment: On the day of your appointment, bring all the necessary documents mentioned above, including your completed application form. Sign the application form in front of the Consular Officer.

Payment options: You can make the payment for the renunciation fee of €82.00 (€80.00 + €2.00) at the Consulate Counter using either cash or a Giro/Debit card.

Check application status: After submitting your application, you can check the status online at https://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in/Renounce. Please note that the processing time for the renunciation certificate may take up to 10-12 weeks.
